About Us In the month of October two songwriters met and played for each other their newest compositions, their "hurricane songs". After a mutual admiration of each others' work they related that they had heard that other friends in the songwriting community of New Orleans also had new songs about the storm. Thus was borne the idea: what if we could help out the music scene by putting on a disc all these songs, these new songs, and then in the process offer a kind of therapy to those who have suffered their own personal and private losses by showing them through song that they are not alone in their confusion and depression, their hope and desires to move on, their resilience and determination to endure the hand we have all been dealt. Word was spread throughout the area and the response was overwhelming. Twenty-two artists had songs and before the two guys knew how close this idea was to a reality the songs began to pour in. The Carrollton Station Foundation has been established as a corporation. It has three partners. The partners have no intention at the present time to take any salary or derive any financial benefit from their endeavors in the building of this project. The intent, simply put, is to get the instrument of the affected New Orleans musician back in his hands and get him back in the clubs. They want to restore New Orleans its legendary musical identity. Along the way, the hope is that assistance can be provided to those engineers, recorders, mastering personnel and sound operators who have suffered losses who also bring to the scene their own talents and skills and upon whom the musician must rely. Personally we know too many people who cannot return to their careers as musicians or technical providers to the music community to sit idly by and "hope" it comes back. We wanted to take action. The Foundation has established an advisory Board who will determine the recipients and the amount of financial assistance we can provide. This Board is ineligible from benefits and is strictly participating on a volunteer basis. They will be submitted an anonymous application and using the criteria and guidelines formed by the corporation (see attached) they will use their discretion to select the beneficiaries and the actual amount based on the loss. The dollars collected will also go to the reimbursement of costs of production of the disc including but not limited to recording, mastering, graphic design; formation of the corporation; any necessary distribution costs and publicity expenditures and all professional services necessary for the completion of any of the aforementioned. Thus far all costs have been paid out of pocket by the Officers. Many have donated time and creative efforts but this personal donation can only go so far. We anticipate small financial donations from private sources to fund some of these expenses. Those donations will not be reimbursed by the funds received by the selling of the CD. In closing, the CD entitled Feeder Bands on the Run will raise money to give financial disaster aid in hopes of reestablishing New Orleans as a city of unmistakable character with the unequivocal passion for music that defines the uniqueness known throughout the world. |
