Story
Gordon and I had an appointment to write in Nashville on the evening of Monday, August 29. We watched CNN with the sound off, except when they featured New Orleans or Grand Isle, while we contemplated the seemingly far-away possibility of not being able to return home and wrote "If I Can't Go Back."
Gordon's folks still live in Gand Isle, and he's been down to help with repairs a few times since the storm. My family's New Orleans home is at this time gutted and drying out, awaiting the loving-touch of renovation.
